Small Businesses: 5 Ways to Attract Fans to your Facebook Business Page

There have been a lot of changes made to Facebook over the last 6 months or so, in particular there have been a lot of changes made to Facebook business pages also.

It’s great to see more and more small businesses realizing the potential of increasing their customer base through social media, and so jumping on the bandwagon as the saying goes.

I strongly believe that 2012 will be the year that social media will grow even bigger and stronger in helping business connect with more customers through popular trends, in particular, Facebook.

If you have a small business and have just got your Facebook business page set up and running, perhaps you’re wondering how to get people to follow you? Check out the 5 tips below which will help you build and increase Facebook fans for your small business page.

1. Create an Attractive Landing Page

Since the arrival of timeline, the default landing page option in business pages has been eliminated, which is a shame, as the landing page in Facebook was a great way to engage with new visitors and attract new fans.

However you can still create some form of landing page in Timeline, check out the video tutorial below by Pat Flynn from SmartPassiveIncome.com Pat does a grand job of showing you how to create a Facebook landing page in Timeline, as well as provide some useful tips on getting the most out of your landing page.

2. Point Your Own Domain to your Facebook Page

A good trick also is to create a memorable URL for your Facebook business page, something that you can share easily on other social sites, submit to directories and share with your business clients etc.

By default your Facebook business page URL will have lots of untidy extensions. You can clean it up by having a personalized Facebook web address such as www.facebook.com/yournamehere.

Alternatively you can purchase your own domain and point it towards your Facebook business page. For example, if I were to use a custom domain pointing to my fan page it would be something like www.magnet4marketing-on-facebook.com or something along those lines. This option will set you back around $10 a year at the most, but it’s a great way to add a professional appearance to your Facebook page.

3. Install ‘Like’ Button for your Facebook Page into your Website and Contact Page

One of the easiest ways to attract new people to your Facebook fan page is by installing either a Facebook Like Box or Like Button.

The ‘Like’ button for me personally I’ve found to be much more effective than displaying a like box. It’s a lot more compact and can be placed pretty much anywhere on your site, meaning that more people are likely to engage and ‘like’ your page and become a fan. Others might find the Like box works just fine.

To add a ‘Like’ button to your homepage, all you have to do is head over to: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/ and enter your Facebook business page URL into the URL to Like field, change the options if you wish and grab the iFrame code, then paste anywhere on your site. Remember the Send option only works with XFBML.

4. Share your Custom Facebook business page URL / Domain Name

Whether you choose to have a custom URL (recommended) for your fan page or not, ensure you do enough to market and promote your page the best you can. That means placing your Facebook business page URL on your –

5. Word of Mouth Marketing

Finally, one of the best ways to spread the word that your small business in on Facebook is through word of mouth, and yes there is such a phrase as word-of-mouth marketing…. So just ensure you let your potential clients know that they can find you on Facebook.

Also chat to your friends and families about it, tell the checkout girl down your local supermarket, the milkman, postman, vicar and anyone else you come across on your travels… ‘My business is on Facebook’…

Great post Fabz I think a lot of small businesses feel like as if they’re jumping in at the deep end with social media and Facebook in particular. When people talk about social media marketing they focus on businesses who are already familiar with whats involved and who are already using it, rather than businesses who really don’t know where to start if that makes sense.
